Practical
By car, by train and regional bus or by electric car: how to reach the upper Bregenzerwald and find us.
Overview
Schoppernau lies in the upper Bregenzerwald, about a 45-minute drive from Dornbirn. The road runs through the valley via Egg, Bezau and Au and is easy to drive all year round.
By public transport, travel to Dornbirn or Bregenz and change to the Landbus Bregenzerwald. The Schoppernau Oberdorf stop is about 50 metres from the apartment, which is easy even with luggage.
The apartment comes with 2 parking spaces right at the house. If you arrive by electric car, you can charge at our wall box by the door with up to 11 kW. Charging works with an NFC chip and is billed by the kilowatt hours used.
In winter the road is cleared. From 1 November to 15 April Austria requires winter tyres depending on conditions: in snow, slush or ice, all wheels must have winter tyres.

From Germany: From Munich take the A96 to Lindau; from Stuttgart take the A8 and A7 onto the A96. After the border at Hörbranz continue on the A14 Rheintal motorway to the Dornbirn-Nord exit, then follow the L200 Bregenzerwaldstraße via Alberschwende, Egg, Bezau and Au to Schoppernau. From Munich it takes just under three hours, from Stuttgart just over three hours.
From Switzerland: From Zurich take the A1 towards St. Gallen and St. Margrethen, exit at Au, continue via Lustenau onto the A14 and leave at Dornbirn-Nord onto the L200 Bregenzerwaldstraße. From Zurich the journey takes about two and a half hours.
From Austria: From Vienna take the A1 Westautobahn to Salzburg, continue on the German A8 to Munich and the A96 to Lindau, and from there follow the A14 and L200 as from Germany. Allow about seven hours. Alternatively, drive through Tyrol on the A12 and the S16 Arlberg expressway to Bludenz and on the A14 to Dornbirn-Nord. The Arlberg tunnel is a toll road.
Motorway vignette: The A14 is vignette-free between the border at Hörbranz and Hohenems. Coming from Germany, or from Switzerland via Lustenau, you therefore don't need an Austrian vignette as far as Dornbirn. It is required on the A1 from Vienna and on the A12, and Swiss motorways need the Swiss vignette.
Tip: The route over the Bödele is shorter from Dornbirn, but in winter the valley road via Egg is the safer choice.
